SPROUTS 2010 - Winners Announced

After an exhilarating Final Showcase at the University Cultural Centre on 18 September, Liz Fong emerged as the winner of SPROUTS 2010, bagging the “Most Promising Work” as well as the “Most Popular Work” awards. Liz, who presented her contemporary dance work, “To Be Examined”, received a total cash prize of $3,000 and an Arts Professional Development Grant of up to $3000 to be used for further training in choreography.

Max Chen, who showcased his work “Tensions in Silence” and performed in Royston Fan’s work “Alone”, was awarded “Best Dancer” with a cash prize of $500. In addition, he received a partial scholarship to Contact 2010 – A Week of Dance, organised by T.H.E Dance Company in partnership with NAC and co-presented by the National University of Singapore (NUS) Centre for the Arts (CFA).

Chiew Peishan, who performed “Touch Me Not”, received a full scholarship to the inaugural dance event as well.

Basu Mallick Koustav received an “Honourable Mention” for his work “(Be)longing”. The 25-year-old NUS undergrad was awarded a cash prize of $500 and a place in Singapore Dance Theatre’s Choreographic Workshop – Passages in 2011.

The competition, which is in its second year, was a joint effort between the National Arts Council (NAC) and Frontier Danceland. SPROUTS aims to provide a platform for debuting fresh and exciting choreographic works by budding choreographers.
