Singapore's First Global Talent Competition Online Is Now Here At Yellobus Content Portal!
3 December 2009 – SpideRider, Singapore’s first global talent competition
online, was officially launched on 1 December 2009 at the new reality-based
content portal Yellobus. SpideRider is an open competition for participants
around the world to display their talent and provides a golden opportunity for
the participants to be discovered by the movers-and-shakers of the
entertainment industry.
Talents with a knack for singing, dancing, juggling, performing magic, playing
a musical instrument, yodeling, catwalking, whistling, doing acrobatics, or
showcasing any skill that’ll make jaws drop are highly encouraged to take part
in SpideRider!
If these talents impress our judges and voters, they will have a once-in-alifetime
chance to attain global fame and fortune and become an overnight
online sensation like Susan Boyle and Paul Potts.
Participants are looking at the prospect of being signed on by a major label
and to be signed under the Yellobus artist management for a contract worth
US$50,000 over three years.
“We highly encourage people to join this competition. It’s the chance for
everyone to share their passion not just locally but to the whole world. One
can never anticipate what can catapult them to stardom and their pastime
pursuits might be it,” said Ian Fong, CEO of Yellobus.
Sharing the enthusiasm for this new undertaking, Simmons, the premiere
name for mattresses and sleep accessories has come in as presenting
sponsor of SpideRider. According to Casey Teh, director of Simmons
Southeast Asia Pte Ltd, “We are honoured to be approached and happy to
support SpideRider as it is Singapore’s first online global talent competition.
Simmons has always been a big supporter of the arts. Simmons also believes
in grooming young budding talents since its first arts sponsorship in Beauty
World, featuring fresh face, Elena Wang. A firm believer in innovation,
Simmons trusts the new way to reach out and engage its younger target
audience is via online. We are certainly blessed with such an opportunity to
back an alternative form of media that promotes the arts.”
Mr. Fong complements Simmons statement and adds, “We’ve seen how
individuals gained fame through the Internet. Given that the entertainment
industry is constantly in need of new blood, this is a great way to discover
them”.
Helping these budding performers hone their craft through their inputs are 18
judges from wide range fields— James Kang and Simon Jerome Nasser
from Warner Music Singapore; Irene Ang, Lim Hui Ling, Allan Wu and
Beatrice Chia from FLY Entertainment Pte Ltd; Ian Fong CEO of Yellobus;
Haresh Sharma from The Necessary Stage; Ng Siew Eng from Singapore
Lyric Opera; choreographer Zaki Ahmad; Peter Tan from The Music Clinic
Pte Ltd; Kuo Jian Hong from The Theatre Practice; Casey Teh from
Simmons (SEA) Pte Ltd; Alvan Loo from Singapore Dance Theatre; Leon
Lim and Lynus Hee from Singapore Polytechnic; Ron Lee (LJ) from Sky
Fitness; and Jason Quek, Operations Manager of Royal Copenhagen
Singapore Pte Ltd.
In addition, Warner Music Singapore Pte Ltd, a major music company, has
come on board as one of the main sponsors of SpideRider. Also joining as
co-sponsors of the talent quest are big names Royal Copenhagen and Sky
Fitness.
HOW TO JOIN IN THE FAME GAME?
There’s no better time to get in front of a camera! A video clip of the
participants performing their respective talents is all that is needed. They will
need to submit their video clip to SpideRider via the Yellobus portal and
that’s their ticket to stardom.
They will need to gather their supporters and rally for their online votes. Their
path to fame and glory will depend solely with the number of votes they get
from their online fans. Participants can submit their entry at
www.yellob.us/spiderider.
THE WINNER
There will be only one winner for this competition, be it Singaporean or from
outside Singapore. US$10,000 in cash and other prizes will be up for grabs!
Winner from outside Singapore wins additional return airfare and an allexpense
paid trip to Singapore for a Meet the Press session and possibly a
mini concert showcase. On the other hand, the winner from Singapore wins
an overseas trip to anywhere in the world worth US$1,000.
“With this unique competition, not only will we uncover the next rising star but
it will also put Singapore on the world map as SpideRider catches the future
celebrity-in-the-making,” remarked Ian Fong.
Fret not! As long as the participants fall within the Top 10 range, they stand a
chance to meet up with our local theatre groups, and audition for a role in their
upcoming productions.
Those on the Top 10 range, are also in good stead for a golden opportunity to
secure a contract worth up to US$30,000 subjected to the judges’ discretion
and jurisdiction.
